Kitchen counters are getting decluttered in Day 10 of the Living Well Spending Less 31 Days to a Clutter Free Life. Cluttered counters make me feel like I can’t function in the kitchen and just make the entire room feel messy. I used to have utensil crocks on the counter near the cooktop, but I did some rearranging a while back and moved our junk drawer to another location and used that drawer for utensils.
This is a big problem area for clutter at our house because it is right where we walk in through the garage. It becomes the catchall for random stuff. Today it was where the basket of dirty kitchen towels got laid on the way to the laundry room.
The best way to keep kitchen counters from being cluttered is to not store things on them. I like keeping utensils and other cooking accessories in drawers and cabinets. If that is not an option for your kitchen, and you need to keep your utensils in a container on the countertop, I recommend keeping only the essential utensils out in the open. Limiting the number of utensils you see will help to keep the space from feeling cluttered.
